Welcome

TFRI's 7th Annual Scientific Meeting will be held in Vancouver, BC, on May 12-13, 2016. The theme this year is “Understanding Cancer Over Time and Space.”

Our 2016 Scientific Organizing Committee has created an engaging agenda this year, with presentations from leading experts in cancer research from across the country and abroad. A preliminary agenda is available on the ASM program page. We are especially pleased to inform you that Dr. Carlos Caldas, University of Cambridge, UK, will join us on Friday, May 13 to give a keynote talk.

The committee has also focused on increasing opportunities for trainees to participate at the meeting and interact with more experienced researchers. Meeting plenaries and breakouts will focus on these key areas: cancer metabolism; biomarkers and disease monitoring; genome analysis and epigenetics; treatment dynamics and the microenvironment to the macroenvironment. We hope popular activities from previous meetings, as well as new approaches for engagement, will further enrich our scientific discussions. In a new twist this year, trainees will be asked to present rapid-fire poster talks in small groups prior to our planned Attended Poster Session and Reception on Thursday, May 12. This format enables virtually every trainee to make a presentation at the meeting!

As meeting space is limited to 200, we request that project designated team attendees register early.

A non-refundable registration fee of $125 is due upon registration. (Invited speakers are exempt from this fee.)  A maximum of up to three nights’ accommodation and meals (including two Poster Receptions) are included in the registration fee.

To encourage trainee attendance and participation, TFRI has again set aside a finite number of travel awards for selected trainees (out of province) whose abstracts are accepted for poster presentation. Not all trainees whose abstract is accepted will be guaranteed a travel award. All other conference participants are required to cover their own travel costs.

A first Call for Abstracts from trainees was issued to funded investigators on January 7. We asked invited investigators to share and circulate the call among their funded trainees. A second Call for Abstracts was sent on February 10.

We look forward to seeing you and/or members of your team in Vancouver this spring.
