TFRI-funded researchers showed up in full force for the 40th annual Terry Fox Run, raising a whopping $97,934 for cancer research.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Terry Fox Run was held virtually for the first time in its history. A special theme One Day, Your Way! encouraged participants to be creative with their run, which is exactly what TFRI-funded researchers did.
“It was great to see so many members of our research community come together virtually to raise money for cancer research,” said Dr. Victor Ling, TFRI President and Scientific Director. "Although we couldn't come together physically this year, it was truly humbling to see so many researchers participating in the event and sharing photos and videos of their run."
In total, 28 TFRI teams participated in the Terry Fox Challenge, the friendly competition which pits research teams against each other to see which can raise the most funds. For the third year in a row, the Vancouver Prostate Centre team won the challenge, raising over $17,845 for cancer research. An (extremely!) close second place went to the Canadian Oncolytic Virus Consortium (COVCo) team. Third place went to the TFRI HQ team.
Dr. Ling was thrilled by the strong turnout and expressed his thanks to everyone who helped to make this year's team challenge and fundraising efforts so successful.
