The Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI) is pleased to announce that Vancouver financial leader Carol Chiang has joined its Board of Directors as a member effective Nov. 1, 2019.
She brings with her more than 29 years’ experience with KPMG and extensive experience in servicing not-for-profit (NFP) organizations in the arts and culture, health care (including cancer organizations), hospital foundations, and community service societies.
Chiang is an accredited Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia. She is passionate about supporting organizations to achieve their success.
“I am very honoured to have the opportunity to serve on the Terry Fox Research Institute Board of Directors,” she remarks. “TFRI is a recognized organization that has taken what Terry Fox had set out to do all these years ago and is accomplishing impactful work to help change the face of cancer research. We are all affected by cancer in our lifetime, one way or another, and I look forward to contributing to the cause by being on the TFRI Board.”
She is KPMG’s audit partner and industry lead for its not-for-profit practice in Greater Vancouver and serves as the engagement partner and quality review partner for many of KPMG’s NFPs. She is actively involved in ensuring consistency in auditing across KPMG’s not-for-profit clients and has a track record of bringing latest thought leadership, practical insights in financial reporting and topical matters in the sector to her clients.
“We are thrilled to have Carol join our TFRI Board. Her passion for not-for-profits, her experience in serving on a variety of service groups and foundation boards, and her work as a long-time audit partner for KPMG will help to broaden and deepen the financial expertise of our Board as we develop our Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres network,” said Dr. Victor Ling, TFRI President and Scientific Director.
Chiang has a proven track record of providing expert proactive advice and best practice industry insights to clients on operational and financial reporting matters unique to not-for-profit organizations. She has also taught courses on NFP accounting standards.
Her list of NFP client experience includes the Canadian Association of Provincial Cancer Agencies, the BC Cancer Foundation, St. Paul’s Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, Union Gospel Mission, Ocean Wise (Vancouver Aquarium), Vancouver Art Gallery and Foundation, and VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation.
